Planting Cannabis In Pots
Getting ready to plant a crop of cannabis in the house means using pots and to protect the crop these will either need to be new pots or ones that have been thoroughly washed using soap and rising it out well.
This is because the cannabis plant is delicate as a seedling and while maturing; used pots can contain diseased soil left on the pot or bugs. Both of these could kill off the crop being grown in the house.
After germinating the seeds they should be planted in peat pots or peat plugs, many growers use what is known as Jiffy pots and with peat pots it is possible to leave the pot on the plant. Peat will rot over time, so this means it could be left on the plant when transplanting or cut off without disturbing the roots of the seedling. Then when they have at least four leaves they need to be transplanted into a pot of approximately six inches in diameter. Before they become root bound in the six inch pot they will need to be transplanted into large pots where they will remain until they are matured and harvested.
The pot sizes are important, since the indoor cannabis crop is much more fragile than the marijuana crop grown outdoors. Should the plant become root bound it can be a hazardous situation, because it can cause stunted growth and that is the last thing the grower wants. That means the plants will not mature to the size they could have and that means a smaller harvest.
